I'm toying with the idea of writing a book and have questions concerning the copyrights of specific images.?

i'd like to write a coffee table sized book on clic cinema. on one side of the page i would have a detailed synopsis, and the other a still from the film. what type of resistance would i encounter from the films not in the public domain?
