I'm going fine china shopping at thrift stores, what would I be looking for and why? Please name the best?

quality dishes to look for and what their usual cost would be. What is considered the highest quality in the new market too. Thanks. So to recap, what i'm asking is for used and antique and new fine plateware.. it does not have to be "fine china" either... just don't want to p up a cup or saucer here or there that would be a nice start to a small mixed collection in my cabinet... thanks.
